Description:
Tango is a partner dance, and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. It was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries, where natives mixed with slave and European immigrant populations. The tango is the result of a combination of the German Waltz, Czech Polka, Polish Mazurka, and Bohemian Schottische with the Spanish-Cuban Habanera, African Candombe, and Argentinian Milonga. The tango was frequently practiced in the brothels and bars of ports, where business owners employed bands to entertain their patrons with music. The tango then spread to the rest of the world.
Many variations of this dance currently exist around the world.
Experience:
Dancing professionally since the age of 15, success came quickly for Cesar and Eli with their winning of the Colombian Tango Championship in 1996. Recognizing their exceptional talent, they were invited to Dubai by the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, where they were the principal dancers and choreographers for the nightly shows at the La Parilla Restaurant. After 4 successful years at La Parilla they continued to dazzle the Dubai nightlife crowd every week with their exciting original performances at the Pachanga Restaurant, Hilton Jumeirah.
Although they continued to perform professionally as a couple, Cesar channeled his exceptional skills and previous teaching experience in Colombia to the nascent tango community in Dubai. As Dubai`s first professional tango teacher, Cesar`s extensive experience and personable style quickly solidified his reputation as the founding father of Dubai`s tango community and its premier Tango Master. Cesar and Eli`s contribution to the dance community and the cultural development of Dubai was recognized in 2009 at the 2nd Dubai Dance Festival when they were awarded a special Certificate of Appreciation.
Cesar and Eli have now make Dubai their home and will continue to enhance the local dance scene with their unique talent and commitment to developing the tango community in the Middle East.
